Fasting

“Fasting is the first principle of medicine; fast and see the strength of the spirit reveal itself.” – Rumi

My introduction to fasting came to me when I took part in a 10-day water fast 15 years ago.  This was my initial inspiration for using fasting as a healing and healthy activity. My subsequent learning about fasting has come through my own experience which includes  10 years routine seasonal fasts. Moreover, in the last 7 years, I have held retreats to support people through their own fasting.

My personal and professional realization is that fasting encourages the body to heal and repair itself!

I am creating a retreat Centre opening 2021 where I will hold these fasting holidays.  This, I am very excited about.

My fasting retreats will offer:

  • Small groups so individual needs can be honoured.
  • Comfortable outdoor living in our field and forest garden with dwelling in yurts and other low impact structures.
  • Water or juice fasts depending on individual needs. They will also be at least 3-5 days as this period of time is necessary for the body to enter a different metabolic state (i.e. ketosis).
  • A biophilic approach; recognizing that being part of a healthy natural environment is one of the best portals to our own nature and healing.
  •  I use a simple natural approach with an emphasis on nurture, where, yoga,  sauna, and bodywork treatments are part of the daily routine.  There are plenty of opportunities to rest and restore.
  •  You will be well supported and nurtured during this transformative time.

Fasting : A Poem

by Jelaluddin Rumi

A poem on the joys of fasting by Jelaluddin Rumi, who was born in, what is now Afghanistan in 1207.

  • Fasting

There’s hidden sweetness in the stomach’s emptiness.
We are lutes, no more, no less. If the soundbox
is stuffed full of anything, no music.
If the brain and belly are burning clean
with fasting, every moment a new song comes out of the fire.
The fog clears, and new energy makes you
run up the steps in front of you.

When you fast, good habits gather like friends who want to help.
Fasting is Solomon’s ring. Don’t give it
to some illusion and lose your power,
but even if you have, if you’ve lost all will and control,
they come back when you fast, like soldiers appearing
out of the ground, pennants flying above them.
A table descends to your tents, spread with other food,
better than the broth of cabbages.

CORONAVIRUS Update

In light of the latest government announcements on 31st December, we won't be able to hold classes at Crowborough Community Centre with the hall closed until further notice.

The good news is I will still be running my two Yoga Classes via zoom - so you can join from the comfort of your home.

I will keep you posted as and when we can go face to face again. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing all your lovely smiley faces via zoom.

Please contact me if you have any queries or need any advice.
